– Have a night out or evening in? In with catered food
– Go climbing or zip line?  Zip line
– Camp in an RV or stay in a tent?  RV in the Marriott parking lot

Core Fitness Featured Instructor – Molly

This month we are highlighting Molly! Come give one of her class a try this month and see what makes her such an amazing instructor.

BodyPump, Mondays @ 9:00 Mormon Trek Location

The Journey to Becoming an Instructor

Hey all!  I’m Molly, and I’m certified in BodyPump and BodyStep.  I am a pharmacist and mom to two very active girls.  As a healthcare professional, I know how important being physically active is to overall health and quality of life.  I was a participant in group fitness classes for several years before deciding to become an instructor.  I love that BodyPump is great way to build muscle strength, increase metabolism, and improve bone density for overall health.  I’m a huge fan of group fitness because it provides the structure and motivation I need to consistently get a great workout and it’s a lot more fun than doing it on my own!

Get to know Molly

If you could have a super power, what would it be?

Super Organized! (Because, clearly, I’m nowhere close)

What is your guilty pleasure?

Dark Chocolate and Red Wine.  Not necessarily in that order.

What do you like to do in your free time?

Running around with my girls takes up a lot of my free time, but we try to do active things as a family.  We like to hike or take family bike rides.  I do love to cook and wish I had more time to experiment with new recipes.  I love to travel around the country and around the world, although there is only so much time and money for those adventures :).  I have participated in Les Mills classes in several states and even managed to attend in a BodyStep class in Copenhagen!

What is your favorite exercise?

Stepping, hands down.  I love the feeling of a good run (you can do it anywhere), and I know how great lifting weights is for me (and Body Pump targets all those important muscle groups), but I just love to step.  I was one of those people who watched a step class and thought, “that looks fun, but I’m not that coordinated.”  But after sticking with it (despite some falls and awkward moments), it became my favorite way to work up a sweat.  It doesn’t matter if you know every move – just keep moving and have fun!

If you were stranded on an island, who would you want to be stranded with and what 5 things would you want to have with you?

I can’t imagine being stranded without my husband and two girls (ages 10 &12), although I’m pretty sure my kids would prefer to be stranded with just about anyone else after about a week (and probably vice versa).  My husband is pretty resourceful though, so I’m sure he would come in handy.

Five things I would want:

  1. Sunscreen
  2. Bug Spray
  3. Some sort of knife or cutting utensil
  4. Oatmeal
  5. I’d also need a lot of red wine…

Would you rather?

– Watch TV or read a book?

I would like to say read a book – I want to read more, but I always fall of the wagon and don’t finish the book.  I don’t watch a lot of TV, but getting sucked into HGTV or Food Network is a guilty pleasure.

– Have a night out or evening in?

Night out – because I can’t sit at home for too long and I definitely enjoy hanging out with family and friends.  But sometimes you just need a good night at home with your loved ones to just chill and reconnect.

– Go climbing or zip lining?

I’ve done both, and I have to say zip lining.  My kids are apparently part spider monkey and can scramble up a rock face, but I’m not quite that nimble.  Zip lining pushes my comfort zone for sure, but it’s so much fun.

– Camp in an RV or stay in a tent?

Is a hotel an option?!  I’m going to pick tent, because if I’m going to camp, it would be in the backcountry where an RV is not an option.  I love hiking and experiencing so many outdoor activities, but I prefer coming back to a hot shower and a real bed if it’s possible.

– Play dodgeball or kickball?

-Honestly, I have bad memories of both in grade school.  I was small and not considered “athletic,” so getting picked last for a team was a major stressor for me at that age.  Don’t let your past experiences and other peoples’ perceptions of you (or your body size/shape) make feel like group exercise (or any exercise!) is out of your league.  We all deserve a healthy and happy life, so find an activity that works for you and stick with it.  You won’t regret the positive influence being active has on your life and those around you.

August 2017 – Sandy Show

Core Fitness Featured Instructor – Sandy Show

This month we are highlighting Sandy! Come give one of her classes a try this month and see what makes her such a great instructor!

– Tuesday 9:00am – Water in Motion – Mormon Trek Pool

– Friday 9:00am – Water in Motion – Mormon Trek Pool

Sandy’s Motto – Embrace the sweat!

The Journey to Becoming an Instructor

I have always loved the water and lap swimming. When Core purchased the Mormon Trek location, I tried AquaFit classes and fell in love. I enjoy the ability to workout as hard as you want and burn a load of calories without the joint impact. As I learned more about the benefits of working out in water, I decided to work on getting certified for aqua fitness. I then had the opportunity to become certified in the Water in Motion program as well which allows me to dance to the music as I workout. I encourage all members to try a water class. We are lucky at Core to have many wonderful options to choose from!

Get to know Sandy

If you you could have a super power, what would it be? The ability to fly, though I do have a fear of heights.

What is your guilty pleasure? Definitely chocolate!

What do you like to do in your free time? I love riding my bike, especially out in the country!

What is your favorite exercise? Other than water classes, BodyStep is my favorite.

If you were stranded on an island, who would you want to be stranded with and what 5 things would you want to have with you?

1) Beach umbrella

2) Sand chair

3) A good book

4) A deli sandwich

5) A craft IPA

Would you rather?

– Watch TV or read a book? Read a book.

– Have a night out or evening in? Night out.

– Go climbing or zip lining? Climbing, though the trip down would be hard for someone with a fear of heights.

– Camp in an RV or stay in a tent? RV (though a hotel room would be better).

– Play dodgeball or kickball? Dodgeball. We played it a lot in elementary school.

July 2017 – Danielle Rowan

Core Fitness Featured Instructor – Danielle Rowan

This month we are highlighting Danielle! Come give one of her classes a try this month and see what makes her such an amazing instructor.

– Tuesday 6:45pm – BodyFlow Mormon Trek

– Saturday 9:10am – BodyFlow North Liberty

(Coming Soon – BodyCombat!)

Danielle’s Motto – Never stop improving!

The Journey to Becoming an Instructor

I was an athlete all through high school, so when I got to college I craved intense workouts. There I discovered group fitness! I attended classes daily and eventually was approached with the idea of training to teach Pilates. I taught Pilates for 3 years then took a short break while finishing up school. Now, I am back with BodyFlow and am currently training for BodyCombat. I love working out with a group and enjoy the feeling of mutual accomplishment at the end of a challenging class.

Get to know Danielle

If you could have a super power, what would it be? I would like to be able to fly. I am not a very good traveler – I get terrible motion sickness in the car and in airplanes (I can’t even read off my phone). If I could fly I would be much more open to taking far trips!

What is your guilty pleasure? Various Netflix shows! It is too easy to get caught up and watch multiple episodes. Luckily, my Fitbit buzzes every hour to remind me to move.

What do you like to do in your free time? Whenever I am home, I devote my attention to my two crazy cats, Mica and Coal. My fiance and I like to stay active outside the gym by exploring Iowa with our kayaks and bike riding. I also love to cook and try out new recipes – I am open to suggestions anytime!

What is your favorite exercise? So many to choose from! I love lunges. They make me feel strong and empowered. Plus there are so many variations and intensities with jumping switch lunges, pulses, back and forward, etc.

If you were stranded on an island, who would you want to be stranded with and what 5 things would you want to have with you? Don’t tell my fiance, but I would want to be stranded with my dad. He is always prepared and is such a survivor! I am not very good at these types of questions because I am too practical… I would want:

1) Water purifying tablets

2) Sunscreen

3) Tarps

4) Protein bars

5) A compass!

Would you rather?

– Watch TV or read a book? Read a book.

– Have a night out or evening in? Evening in.

– Go climbing or zip lining? Zip lining, though both scare me a bit.

– Camp in an RV or stay in a tent? Stay in a tent.

– Play dodgeball or kickball? Kickball

Fitness has always been a big part of my life. I’ve always loved to run, but since moving to Iowa 3 years ago I’ve developed a love for group fitness classes. I love that Zumba encourages passion, movement, and individuality. Most of all, it is FUN!

The Journey to Becoming an Instructor

My next door neighbor was a water aerobics instructor and basically just asked me to take over when she moved. I was horrible! I recorded tapes from the radio like the Grease soundtrack. I had no choreography or thought behind my workouts. That was 23 years ago though, and here I am, 23 years later!

Get to know Andrea

If you could have a super power, what would it be? If I had a super power, it would be that of supreme convincibility. To get anyone to do whatever I ask. It would make getting my kids teeth brushed at night so much easier!

What is your guilty pleasure? My guilty pleasure… so many! Flo Rida. Also, really bad, “b” horror movies. American Horror story. Lindt Truffles.

What do you like to do in your free time? In my free time, I like to read, educate myself, chill out outside with a cup of coffee, and teach my kids important things in life, like how to ride a bike, or to really look at the color of leaves, or how to best catch lady bugs.

If you had one wish, what would it be? One wish would be that there would be no terminal illness.

What is your favorite exercise? My favorite exercise… hmmmm… BodyCombat is my favorite class. I’m working on a handstand push-up and one day I’ll do it! I love to lift shoulders, but I have a hard time picking just one exercise.

If you had to choose one word to describe yourself, what would it be? Annoyergenic. (That’s annoying energetic.)

If you were stranded on an island, who would you want to be stranded with and what 5 things would you want to have with you?
